Welcome to a new session!

 "Inspiration is taking me to distant lands this session; I am following the soft whispers of the sea and dessert winds to a place of new ideas, visions and what dreams may come.   I will return in May 2010 and look forward to coming home to our Nia circle; moving in a circle; honoring our circle and sharing with you the treasures uncovered in my journey and letting it flow through our dance.   In the meantime I leave you with the zesty Felicia who will maintain the Wednesday evening Nia class for the Winter session. Short walk from Villa Maria metro station.  Parking is free.  Please come via the first door to the right of the main entrance (door 4871)

Registration and payment can be made by cash or check at the studio just before class and also online via Paypal .   

If you buy your pass online with Paypal, you have the option to pay with your credit card.  Please remember to bring your receipt to class so that you can pick up your Nia class card.

Tips for class

Bring a bottle of water with you and wear stretchy or loose comfortable clothing (such as yoga wear).  

Also do not eat a heavy meal at least one hour prior to class. Nia is done in bare feet. If you can't remove your shoes for medical or other reasons, please wear ballet slippers or soft-soled shoes.

What we’ll learn… Throughout the session we’ll be exploring Nia’s 3 stages of practice, the 5 sensations, the 8 stages of freedance, the 9 different movement forms (from the dance, healing and martial arts), Nia’s 13 guiding principals, the 13 joints and the 52 Nia moves. 

We’ll be learning how to shift our weight gracefully, challenge our balance, move in and out of space with agility, stability, mobility and with personal exploration & discovery. We’ll be playing with opposites – yin & yang, circular vs. linear movements, intrinsic and extrinsic conditioning, melodic and rhythmic motion. 

We’ll be moving our bodies in new ways, releasing power and energy, stimulating our tendons, ligaments, and all the bones and muscles in our body. In the process, we’ll be breaking old movement habits, calming the mind, relieving stress, building reservoirs of chi and moving towards a balanced life, a passionate life, a fearless life!
